Choosing photos

Photomontages > Useful suggestions

Select carefully

You will obviously be wanting to select your best photos, ones that you are proud of, but remember that the objective is to create a complete sequence of photos. This could mean that to produce an overall effect, you may be better substituting some of your "best" photos for some that maintain the viewers interest. The typical viewing screen is in a 4:3 horizontal to vertical ratio, so that photos in landscape mode show better that those in portrait mode by showing relatively less black border. This should definitely not stop you from including portrait mode shots, but you should avoid grouping too many of them together.

  • Look for variety of angles and subject matter
  • Look for interesting changes in light and location
  • Select photos that step through a sequence of time and/or events
  • Avoid too many of photos on a similar subject

Group photos in themed sequences

Where photos cover slightly different topics it may be better to split them into separate sequences accessible from the main menu, rather than have them in one long sequence. In this way you can arrange for a different piece of music appropriate for each separate sequence, and it needn't cost any more!

Select representative Photos

We will invite you to choose which photos you would like, from either the stills or the video, for use on the DVD label and case. It is an opportunity to select the shots that you think best represent the contents of the DVD.
